DUTIES: This is technical and specialized work developing and/or updating existing materials for training purposes concerning the Kansas Fire Prevention Code, the 2000 National Fire Life Safety Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, Centers for Medicare/Medicaid inspection process and Plans Review process. Develops and present training programs to health care facilities and other targeted groups. Manages all aspects of the Kansas Burn Injury Reporting System (KBIRS) and the Kansas Fire Incident Reporting System (KFIRS) which includes providing technical support and training to 650 plus fire departments. Creates articles for publication; attends and/or sets up exhibits at conferences; works with facilities in identifying and understanding the inspection process and other available programs; extensive statewide travel.

Minimum Requirements: One year experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency’s programs. College courses in fire science may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of two semester hours for one month of experience.
In order to substitute Education for experience, a college transcript must be submitted at time of application.
Preferred Skills: Applicants must have knowledge of the Kansas Fire Prevention Code, the 2000 National Fire Life Safety Code, International Building Code and the International Fire Code; must have a mechanical aptitude background; exceptional skills in both oral and written communication and strong computer skills.
This position is located in the Topeka Office however, extensive travel throughout the State of Kansas is required in order to provide information and training to different audiences.
Licenses, Certifications & Registration: Must have a current valid driver’s license. Must become certified as a Fire Inspector 1 within 12 months of hire date.
Performance Standards: To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the probation period.
