Dramatic dash cam footage from a highway patrol vehicle in Russell County shows an out-of-control semi truck nearly miss hitting the patrol car.

The near miss happened Sunday in Russell County. Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Tod Hileman, based in Hays, says Trooper Bill Poland was traveling east on I-70 when the semi, traveling too fast for the conditions, lost control.

“Thankfully Trooper Poland had a quick reaction and was not hurt,” Hileman says.

Hileman advises drivers to slow down and “gauge the road mile by mile.”

“Just because it’s not icy where you are, does not mean it may not be icy 20 miles down the road,” he says. “Again, if you don’t need to drive, please stay home.”
