A Seaman High School male student, 16, was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision Tuesday morning just north of Topeka on N.W. 46th.

The crash was reported just after 7:40 a.m. just east of N.W. 46th and Button Road near Camden Lane. The location is east of US-75 highway.

Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Todd Stallbaumer said the male, a junior at the high school, was driving east on 46th in a dark gray Pontiac Grand Am when it crossed the center line and struck a westbound full-size white Dodge pickup truck head-on.

The driver of the Grand Am, the lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was checked at the scene for minor injuries and didn’t require hospitalization.

The impact of the crash was in the westbound lane where the truck was coming from.

The truck came to rest facing southwest in north shoulder of the road. The car came to rest facing southeast in the south shoulder of the road.

The family of the Seaman student has been notified. The name of the teen is being withheld pending additional family notification.

The speed limit on 46th, a two-lane road, is 55 mph.

N.W. 46th is blocked off in both directions in the area and will be for much of Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Herman Jones and a chaplain were being sent to the scene.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating further.
