Firefighters are investigating a Thursday morning fire at an apartment building in Junction City.
J.C.F.D. says they received a call 11:30 a.m. Thursday for a smoke detector going off at an apartment building at 115 W. Spruce St. Upon arrival, fire crews found light smoke showing from the one-story building, with nine separate apartments inside.
All occupants in the building were evacuated, and nobody was hurt.
One person was taken to Geary County Hospital for difficulty breathing, and one firefighter was taken to the hospital for a checkup after fighting the fire. He was later released.
The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, with J.C.F.D. saying they used about 1,000 gallons of water. At least three of the nine apartments suffered extensive smoke and water damage, but all nine had visible damage afterward.
Fire investigators believe the fire originated from a metal conduit box next to a ceiling light fixture in the kitchen of one apartment. The actual cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
