Man found dead following Phillipsburg fire

Phillipsburg firefighters discovered the body of a man in a house after extinguishing a small fire Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from Phillips County Sheriff Charles Radabaugh.

According to the release, smoke was coming from the house, which is in the 500 block of F Street, when firefighters from the Phillipsburg Fire Department arrived at 3:55 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the fire in the front part of the home before finding the man’s body.

An autopsy has been scheduled. The name of the victim will not be released until positive identification can be made, according to the release.

Investigators with the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office were at the house, but a cause had not been determined by Friday afternoon.

According to the sheriff, the investigation is continuing. Foul play is not suspected.
