Firefighters worked a fire at a northwest Wichita sand plant on Wednesday.

Crews from Wichita and Sedgwick County responded the fire that was located in the 4500 block of N. West Street.

Investigators say the fire started in some grass, spread to equipment and tires near the sand plant. Wind then carried the fire into the trees.

Crews say they had to deal with the wind. They asked people to be careful and aware of how dry it is.

Black smoke from the fire could be seen on the KWCH-12 Skycam.

The Wichita Fire Department says a grass fire extended to heavy machinery at the landfill near 45th and West Street.
