The Liberal Fire Department works hard all year, and celebrated a historic milestone by being part of the Liberal community for 100 years back in October.

The department recently gathered for yet another celebration of the firefighters’ hard work during its annual awards banquet and ceremony Feb. 18. During the event, a big focus was on the “Of the Year” workers, as there were no awards for 5, 10, 15 or 20 years of service, according to LFD Chief Kelly Kirk.

“In our categories for the ‘of the year’ awards we had the following recipients: Rookie of the Year, Erving Altamirano; Full-Time Firefighter of the Year, Kevin Altamirano; Officer of the Year, Aaron Luman; Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, Ronnie Sumner; and Outstanding Firefighter of the Year, Tyson Rice,” Kirk noted in a release.

Overall, the event was a success, Kirk continued, and he is proud of the crew for their hard work.

“It was a very enjoyable evening and a great opportunity to recognize our personnel who serve throughout the year,” Kirk concluded.
