Firefighters battled a fire at an attached garage in Elwood on Friday night.

Multiple crews from eastern Doniphan County arrived at the scene to keep the fire from moving from the garage to the house. The residence was located near the intersection of Vermont and 3rd Streets.

Crews arrived at the fire between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Only minor flames appeared around the garage, which was destroyed, after approximately an hour, and firefighters seemed to be gaining an upper hand in preventing a spread to most of the house.

Several area streets were blocked off by equipment, as crews continued to battle the blaze near 9:30 p.m.
