John W. Snyder

John W. Snyder, 88, died March 17, 2017, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston. He was born on March 21, 1928, to Vernon and Mamie (Smith) Snyder, in Ashley, Michigan. He was a member of the Hesston volunteer fire department, little league coach and umpire, and he had a lifelong love of fishing. John worked as a shipping supervisor at several manufacturing companies including Hesston Manufacturing, Excel Corporation, and Fleming Foods. He was a long time member of Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston. John married Nona Jantz on June 16, 1950, in Hesston. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, Tony Snyder, Dubuque, Iowa, Mark Snyder, Hannibal, Missouri; daughters, Vanna Penner, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Jane Elmore, Shawnee, Kansas; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gaylord Snyder (Ann), Jefferson, North Carolina, Clifford Snyder (Donna), Ashley, Michigan; sisters, Carolyn Ely, St. John’s, Michigan, and Marilyn Jackson (John), Macy, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his; son, Steven Snyder; and brothers, Stanley and Vincent Snyder. Burial will be at 9:30am, Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston. Memorial service will follow at 11am at Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston, with Pastors, Kurt Horst and Jill Schmidt Weaver officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday from 5pm to 7pm at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. Memorials may be made to Harry Hines Hospice, Whitestone Mennonite Church, or to the Mennonite Disaster Services, all in care of Miller -Ott Funeral Home, 107 Lancaster, Hesston, KS 67062.
