Robert “Bob” Culbert, Jr

Robert “Bob” Culbert Jr. passed away on March 10, 2017. Robert was born to parents, Robert and Ida (Levinus) Culbert, on October 22, 1934 in Yonkers, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Wayman; sister, Dorothy Lowe; brother, Edwin Culbert; and a nephew, Donald Van Arsdale, Jr. Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen (Van Arsdale); son, Robert (Julie) Culbert; daughters, Laura (John) Fleming, Karen Alexander; and son-in-law, Steve Wayman, 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three on the way; along with many nieces and nephews. Robert graduated from Kingston High school in New York. He joined the U.S. Army Military Police in 1954, after serving in the Navy Reserves for two years. He served in Vietnam for one year during the Vietnam War. Robert was honorably discharged as Sergeant 1st Class, from the U.S. Army in 1975, after earning numerous medals for his service. The day after leaving the Army, he started working at the Leavenworth VA Center as a firefighter. Over the next 20 years, Robert worked his way up to fire chief at the VA. He retired in 1995. He volunteered as a volunteer firefighter since he was 16 in New York, Texas and continued at the Delaware Township in Lansing. Bob loved country music, especially Hank Williams Sr. and he enjoyed playing his accordion. He was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was loved so very much and will be missed by so many, but we know he is united in Heaven with Jesus and his beloved family. We will all be together again in the future. Memorials may be donated to the Wounded Warriors. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Davis Funeral Chapel followed by Memorial Service at 7 PM. Inurnment will be at a later date.
