A Eureka man lost his home last Friday, March 24 when a fire broke out.

Neighbors reported the fire shortly after 7:17 a.m. and the Eureka Fire Department responded to 704 N. School.

According to Eureka City Fire Chief Doug Williams, firefighters found fire involving both the interior and exterior of the home. The fire had extended from the kitchen up the stairwell and into the attic on the interior and up an exterior wall on the outside. The fire was extinguished quickly and the homeowner was not home. Fire crews were on scene for some time checking for extension. The fire was investigated by the Kansas State Fire Marshall’s Office and thought to be from an electrical source.

Greenwood County EMS, Greenwood County Sheriff’s Deputies and the American Red Cross also responded.
