Michael Wayne Slupianek

Michael Wayne Slupianek, 60, Marysville, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

Visitation was 3 to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 23, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 24, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Father Daniel Schmitz officiated. Sterling Clark was the organist. Music included “I Am the Bread of Life”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Be Not Afraid”, “You Are Mine”, and “How Great Thou Art”.

The pallbearers were Joe Germer, Jimmy Keller, Steve Crome, Todd Ackerman, Pat Ellenbecker, and Jim Ellenbecker.

The honorary pallbearers were Alan Loges, Brent Polson, Robby Lane, Trent Becker, Tom Sherrill, Richard Temps, Dave Richardson, and Dennis Schroller.

Mike was born June 9, 1956, at Marysville to Carroll and Shirley (Whittington) Slupianek. He attended the Marysville Schools and graduated high school in 1975. On June 7, 1975, he was united in marriage to Michele Coffey and they were blessed with two sons, Jake and Adam.

Mike started working with his father on cars at a young age and loved it. He worked at Bob’s Cars, Boss Motors, Firestone, Georgia Pacific and Dixon Tire Company. He opened Slup’s Repair, six years ago. Slup loved his job and took pride in his work. He passed that love on to his son, Adam.

Slup was a member of the Crappie Club and loved fishing with Michele, his boys and his grandchildren. He was also an avid hunter and loved nature and being outdoors. He passed the love of the outdoors to Jake and Adam. Slup especially loved country cruising with his wife and taking pictures of wildlife.

Mike was a huge fan of any activity that his sons and grandchildren were involved in. Any sport or activity that they chose to be a part of, Grandpa Slup was there to offer support with loud cheers and an even louder whistle. They never doubted who their biggest fan was.

Slup was Marysville’s Swim Team coach for eight years and loved helping children learn how to swim.

Slup was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and was on the Scuba team. He enjoyed helping others and was always there to lend a hand. He was a member of the Sons of the Legion for many years and a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Evans, Topeka; his wife, Michele; sons, Jake (Shelly) Slupianek and Adam (Jamie) Slupianek, both of Marysville; two sisters, Deb Sandmann, Frankfort, Jennifer Dawson, Kansas City; six grandchildren, Jordan Beckman, Josh Martinez, Cameron Martinez, Storm Slupianek, Harlie Slupianek and Dakota Slupianek and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Packett and Harper Martinez; and nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
