A small fire on the outside of an apartment building was quickly extinguished Monday afternoon in Hutchinson.

Mid-afternoon Monday, Hutchinson Fire Department was called to 1017 N. Main St. for a report of a structure fire. When they arrived, they found a small, smoldering fire at the top of exterior wooden stairs and the bottom of a second-floor doorway on the small apartment building.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, then checked in the walls and the first-floor ceiling to be sure the fire hadn’t spread anywhere out of sight, Battalion Chief Jeremy Unruh said.
