Andover Apartment Damaged By Fire

By Grant Merrill

Owners of the Sunstone Apartments are likely counting their blessings today after Andover firefighters were able to contain the damage from a small fire to the outside of a building. Units were called to 711 East Cloud just after 2:00 PM and arrived to find a small fire on a second floor deck.

The blaze did not breach the interior of the building according to Andover Fire-Rescue Department Chief Chad Russell. The heat from the fire did damage the seals on the patio door, and caused them to begin failing.

Damage was estimated at around $10,000. Russell says that investigators are looking into the cause, but preliminary indications are that discarded smoking materials ignited a potted plant on fire, that extended to the deck itself.

No injuries were reported.
