Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire that did significant damage to a home Monday evening.

Authorities responded to the home near Nelson Road and 122nd Street around 5 p.m. Monday.

When firefighters arrived, about half of the home, and the home’s detached garage, were in flames.

Crews were able to bring that fire under control in about 25 minutes.

Officials said an older adult and her son were home when the fire started. While both of them were safely able to escape, the woman was later taken to the hospital for breathing difficulties.
