Topeka firefighters late Wednesday successfully rescued a cat caught in a tree and its owner, who had climbed the tree trying to rescue it.

Firefighters were called at 9:59 p.m. to the 2000 block of N.W. Tyler, said a dispatcher for the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center.

The cat and the woman who owns it were both found about 16 feet up in a large tree, said Shift Commander Todd Williams of the Topeka Fire Department. The woman’s identity wasn’t being released.

Rescues such as the one made Wednesday evening aren’t uncommon for the Topeka Fire Department, Williams said.
