A lighting strike late Thursday night at a tank battery around Southwest 100th Avenue and 100th Street caused a saltwater tank to blow up and catch fire, melting it and the saltwater tank next to it. The explosion also damaged the access stairs. A fast moving storm in the area produced a lot of lightning Thursday night and one of the bolts hit the salt water tank that was almost empty. The oil storage tanks, just a few feet away, were not damaged. No one was injured in the incident. Fire units from Coats and Cullison were called to the scene but the fire had almost burned itself out. Fire units put out the remaining fire in the tanks without incident.
