Significant damage in Sunday morning house fire

The Hiawatha Fire Department responded to a house fire Sunday morning at 200 S. 10th St.

Jordanne Shockley, public relations officer for the HFD, said the fire was contained to the living quarters and the damage was significant. No one was home at the time of the fire, which was called in at 10:16 a.m.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation.

Firefighters were on scene for an hour and half. Also assisting HFD was Squad 48, Town and Country EMS, Hiawatha PD and Robinson Fire Department for mutual aid.
