Fire gutted an abandoned home in the Central Park neighborhood overnight Wednesday.

Topeka firefighters were called to 1733 S.W. Central Park at 1:51 p.m. after a passerby saw smoke, according to a Shawnee County dispatcher.

Flames billowed from the pink two-story home when firefighters arrived but it was quickly contained. The fire destroyed much of the house’s roof and upper floor, the dispatcher said.

Yellow police tape was strewn around the property soon after it was extinguished. White columns, the porch and a neighboring car port were largely undamaged.
