Lorraine seeks another fire truck

The Lorraine Fire Department is looking for another fire truck.

During the April 18 meeting of the Lorraine City Council, Fire Chief Joe Travnichek reminded council members the engine on the department’s brush truck quit on the way back from fighting the recent fire at Wilson Lake.

He called the Kansas Forestry Service, but officials there said there are no replacement parts available for that truck.

Travnichek said he could purchase a used engine for $4,000 plus the cost of installing it, but he would rather purchase a smaller used brush truck instead.

Council members instructed Travnichek to look for a replacement brush truck.

In other business:

City Clerk Michael Boyer said a person who wishes to remain anonymous has volunteered to replace the soffit on the front of the Lorraine Fire Department at his own expense. The council approved the work.
