Several late night calls to Horton Dispatch led officers to the 1500 block of First Avenue East in the early hours of Tuesday morning, where they found what is believed to be three homes on fire.

This is according to a press release from Horton Police Chief John Calhoon Tuesday afternoon. He said that with officers on the scene, Dispatch received additional calls of a possible break-in at Lake Village Apartments, just a few blocks away, along with reports of several vehicles on fire in the complex parking lot.

Chief Calhoon said first responders from around the area assisted with the late night calls, along with all Horton Fire and Police Department members.

The release also states that “a person of interest was arrested prior to daylight” and is being held at the Brown County’s Sheriff’s Office, though no names are being released at this time, pending formal charges through the Brown County Attorney’s office. The investigation into the suspected arson incidents is ongoing, and it is unclear at this time if the suspect in custody is the only person of interest in the case. No report of injuries or damages has been released.

Horton Mayor Tim Lentz took to Facebook on Tuesday morning to thank all of those who responded to the call for assistance.

“We are very thankful for the fire departments, Sheriff’s Department, EMS and local law enforcement in our time of need,” said Lentz, who would go on to refer to the overnight incidents as a “terrible act of violence” against the city.
