Lawrence fundraiser overwhelming success

The Saturday fundraiser for Lola Township firefighter and former Fire Chief Wayne Lawrence was an “overwhelming” success.

“With the food and the silent auction we raised about $3,800,” said Jay Justice. “We had a fishing gear basket last week at Angelo’s in Hallowell and raised about $320 from that which will be included.

In addition and somewhat of a surprise the Caney Fire Department held a fundraiser in Caney with the proceeds going to Chief Lawrence. They presented a check for over $1,500 to the fundraiser.

The Lola Township Fire Department is continuing a raffle through the Cherokee County Fair for several items, including a black powder rifle, a crossbow and a knife made by local craftsman Phil Evans.

Each of the items will be drawn separately.
