Fire marshal named interim fire/EMS chief

Cowley Courier Traveler – June 19, 2017

The City of Winfield announced the hiring of an interim fire chief Friday.

Fire marshal Vincent Warren will serve as interim fire chief while the city conducts a search to fill the role vacated by the retirement of chief Alan Stoll. Warren has been working with Stoll for a few weeks to ensure a smooth transition.

Warren has 19 years in fire service, 15 of them with the City of Winfield. He began as a firefighter/EMT and has been promoted during his tenure to be an engineer and a lieutenant before earning his current position as fire marshal.

In addition to being fire marshal for the City of Winfield, Warren is a member of Task Force 5, the haz-mat response team for the State of Kansas, and the Arson Strike Force for South Central Kansas. He is a Fire Investigator II with the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and is a member of the Kansas Chapter of International Association of Arson Investigators.

Warren had this to say about Stoll upon his retirement, “Chief Stoll will be greatly missed by the Winfield fire/EMS department, the City of Winfield and the citizens of Cowley County. He has been a great mentor for me as well as others within our department and throughout the state.

“He helped to guide our department in a positive direction, and with the new role of providing Emergency Medical Services to two-thirds of the Cowley County, he managed and coordinated the efforts while promoting learning experiences for all involved entities. We just can’t thank him enough for the job he has done.

“I’m very grateful and honored for this opportunity to serve the City of Winfield and Fire District 7 as the interim fire chief. I look forward to serving this community and to the continued support of our Winfield fire/EMS department personnel.”
