No injuries have been reported as a result of an early morning house fire

Leavenworth Times – July 5, 2017

No injuries have been reported as a result of an early morning house fire in Leavenworth, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday at 625 Oak St. The house was supposed to be vacant, but firefighters found signs that someone may have been staying there without permission.

However, no one was in the house when firefighters arrived, according to Mark DeMaranville, division chief of prevention for the Leavenworth Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, smoke and fire could be seen coming from the back of the house.
DeMaranville said firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 or 20 minutes.

The fire caused an estimated $35,000 damage to the house.

DeMaranville said firefighters have had difficulty contacting the owner of the property.
The fire remains under investigation.
