A Topeka Fire Department investigator was called to the scene of an early-morning car fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the city’s southwest side.

The blaze was reported around 5:20 a.m. on the back side of the Embassy Apartments at 2920 S.W. Gage.

Initial reports indicated a red Honda Accord was on fire and was only about 6 feet away from the back of the brick apartment building.

Fire crews arrived at the scene a short time after the fire was reported and quickly extinguished the blaze.

There were no other cars in the parking lot and the apartment complex appeared to be vacant.

The cause of the fire and other information weren’t immediately available.
